Raider Band Students and Parents,
Honestly, I can’t remember a time where I’ve been as impressed with the students I work with as I have been this week. To witness first hand their drive, commitment, and support of one another these past few days, in the midst of dealing with different weather circumstances, has been awesome to see! You already knew this, but you have some awesome kids there at home with you!
We’re off to the races! This weekend we begin our process to put our best foot forward to be competitive in our final marching contests. With the end of the marching season in sight, it also means it’s time to begin planning for next year (yes… already! :-D ).
Booster Executive Board Positions Next Year
Our President and Treasurer positions must be filled by someone new as we go in to the 2019-2020 school year (President is “graduating out” and Treasurer has met the two-year “cap”.) If you’d like to help lead this dynamic team or have accounting experience, we need your help! These positions are required to be filled in order for us to have a booster organization.
The Vice President(s) of Concessions organizes a few training sessions at the beginning of the school year and then helps to make sure items are ready to be sold at different events. The band program depends on the revenue generated from these leaders, and you’ll be able to know that you’re creating a huge positive impact on all students in the band program! This job can be split between two or more people.

Band Fee and/or San Fran Payment Due Monday
As always, thank you for your support of our program! Please remember that if you’re attending the optional San Fran trip, that your trip will be cancelled if your band and booster fees are not paid in full by mid-November.
UIL Region Marching Evaluation - Tomorrow(?) 10/20
Tomorrow around 10:00am I will receive a text message from the UIL coordinator on whether or not they’re going to have the event tomorrow (depending on weather forecast). If they postpone, the event will be on Monday 10/22. The schedule will remain the same for Monday’s event if this happens. Either way, be looking for an email and other social media alerts shortly after 10am once I hear what is going to happen tomorrow.
This evaluation is the first step in qualifying for the State Marching Contest. We must get a “Division 1” at this contest in order to qualify and attend the UIL Area Marching Contest.
UIL Area Marching Contest - Saturday 10/27
All 6A bands that receive a “Division 1” in our Area will compete in the Area Marching Contest - there are 37 bands in our area, but probably(?) not all of them will get a Division 1. Plan for a very long, all-day event. We will not know the schedule until likely Wednesday 10/24.
The contest is in San Antonio, North East ISD, Heroes Stadium. The contest is prelims-finals format. The top 10 bands from prelims will make finals. Then, for every 5 bands that attend the contest, they will reward 1 band to advance to State. So, if 30 bands are in prelims, the top 6 in finals will advance to State... if there are 29 bands in prelims, the top 5 in finals will advance to State.
Bands of America San Antonio - Friday 11/2 and Saturday 11/3
We’ve received the performance schedule for BOA SA. This is a two-day event. 84 bands are competing, and the top 14 make finals. See attached schedule for more details. I might have to make some minor tweaks to the attached schedule, and will send again next week, but the overall time frame of events is correct.
