Raider Band Weekly Update Sept 10 - Sept 15

Raider Band Students and Parents,

 

Thank you for your flexibility at the game last night. We will work to see if there’s another time to celebrate our Seniors at a different football game. With our first contest just three weeks away (!!!), there is much to cover - take a look!

 

GRADES!!! Eligibility, Etc

The end of the six weeks grading period is Friday September 21st. There are different district rules in regard to which classes (regular/Pre-AP/AP) cause students to become “ineligible” (also known as No Pass No Play). The easiest way to not worry about the ins-and-outs of eligibility is simple - pass your classes! Do your homework and turn it in and attend tutorials! We as directors will start, next week, talking with individual students who are at risk of becoming ineligible.

 

Woodwind & Brass Pass-Off Feedback

I’ve been working to find a way to efficiently and effectively give students their feedback that we’ve logged as they’ve played their marching band and/or region band pass offs. With the help of the I.T. department here at CRHS, I’ve found a way to email our students their feedback directly to their @student.roundrockisd.org account. You’ll now have a record of how you did, what we heard, etc in .pdf format. We will do our best to make sure we comment about your tone quality in all the feedback we provide.

 

Meet The Teacher Night, Wednesday 9/12 6-9pm

We’ll be here if you have questions for us but we encourage you to spend the evening with your child’s academic teachers. You’re always welcome to contact us with questions about different band events, etc.

 

Contest Spot Auditions

Students who are currently “sharing” a marching spot will audition to be the performer at our contests on Thursday September 20th. The audition will entail marching and playing Act 2 and Act 3. All students will go with a director to one of the turf fields for the audition. We will consider the audition result, eligibility, attendance, and pass-off grades before determining the competition performer. Students who are not chosen as the competition performer will still have the opportunity to march at different football games, as long as they as safely able to perform in that position.

 

Next Week

The rehearsal schedule is slightly modified (see below) to ensure that we abide by the UIL 8 Hour Rule while allotting time for our rehearsal with our show designer who will be in town.

Friday September 21st - Football vs Leander @ Kelly Reeves

End of 6 Week Grading Period (eligibility check)

Tuesday September 25th - No rehearsal

Wednesday September 26th - Rehearsal 5-8pm with Drill Writer

Thursday September 27th - Rehearsal 6-9pm in Kelly Reeves with Drill Writer (provide your own transportation); great opportunity to rehearse in the contest venue two days before BOA Austin!

Friday September 28th - Football vs Stony Point @ Kelly Reeves

Saturday September 29th - BOA Austin (schedule coming out soon - we’ll be “booked” the whole day)

7:45-8:45am Percussion Region Masterclass

5pm-8pm Full Ensemble Rehearsal

 

Friday 9/14 Game Day! Away vs Vandegrift

4:00pm Release from class

4:10pm Outdoor Ensemble Game Preparation

4:45pm Outdoor Preparation Ends

4:50pm Begin dressing in to full uniform

5:15pm Inspection in Band Hall

5:20pm Exit to load buses, pick up game day meal as you exit band hall

5:30pm Depart for Vandegrift HS Stadium

We will do everything possible to be there on time. We’ll see how Highway 620 traffic

treats us :-)

6:30pm (approx) Arrive, move in to stands

6:50pm School Song

6:55pm Fight Song

7:00pm Kickoff

8:30pm Halftime (approx), “WE ARE -- C.R.!!!”

10:00pm End of game (approx), load buses, depart

11:00pm Arrive back to CRHS (approx) - GO HOME

 

Saturday 9/15

9am - Noon Full Rehearsal with Marching Show Designer, coming to town specifically to work with us

We will do a LOT of “production” and choreography work at this rehearsal and cover a lot

of NEW information.

We are very fortunate to have a team of people who are among the best in this craft that

work with this band program.


 

Contest season will be here before we know it! Can’t wait!
